Rectory Farm, Great Brickhill, Buckinghamshire
Find out more about our ethos, explore our initiatives and future opportunities.
INTRODUCTION
Records show that The Turner family has been farming in Great Brickhill since the 1700s, with Tom Turner being the 13th generation to do so. Rectory Farm was bought from the church in 1890 and has been our family home ever since.
The farm was originally a traditional mixed farm but it has gone through many changes since. From an arable and dairy farm, to growing and selling broiler chickens and Christmas poultry, to its present-day incarnation as an organic farm, certified by Organic Farmers & Growers.
Today, Rectory Farm is a vibrant and diversified organic family farm with a strong environmental ethos. The farm is sited on gently undulating farmland stretching from the edge of the Greensand Ridge down to the River Ouzel, a tributary of the Great Ouse. As such, the soil is a mixture of light sandy land near the ridge and clay loams near the river, along with areas of gravel. This varied mixture of soils makes farming the site diverse and challenging.
“It is our hope that we can share this wonderful farm with our wider community, providing the next generation with an insight into the challenges and opportunities the agricultural sector holds.”
